Rigpa Study & Practice Program
Every year, retreats with Sogyal Rinpoche take place in France, Germany, Great Britain, Ireland, North America and Australia. They are complemented by a year-round program of courses in Rigpa's centres and groups around the world.
These courses offer a graduated path of teachings and practice covering the three 'vehicles' of Buddhism: the fundamental vehicle, the bodhisattva training in compassion and the vajrayana teachings.
Currently followed by over three thousand people worldwide, the retreats feature teachings by Sogyal Rinpoche and other masters, and emphasize personal practice and integration in daily life.
A Distance Learning Program - the Bush Telegraph is also available for individuals who do not live near a center or a group.
Courses at Rigpa Melbourne 2009
2009 Courses
Regardless of who we are, the main purpose of our life - you could call it the heart of being human - is to be happy. If we look closely, we can see that there are two kinds of happiness. One is based more on physical comfort; the other is founded on a deeper, mental contentment. If we apply them to ourselves, we could well discover that Buddhist practices, such as meditation; Buddhist wisdom, such as the view of interdependence; and Buddhist ethics, such as altruism, can revolutionize the way we work and act in the world.
Then, even though life may be complex on the outside, we will possess an inner simplicity and carefree dignity. This will enable us to meet difficulties, and troubles with a deeper insight. As our mind settle through meditation we discover ‘wholeness’: the scattered, fragmented aspects of ourselves come home; the contradictory voices and feelings that fight for control over our inner lives settle and become friends. We have more self-confidence, and self-worth. We are well in ourselves and become more authentic, genuine and transparent.
Courses are based on video teachings by Sogyal Rinpoche and include meditation and group discussions.
The 2009 course will commence in February or March, depending on whether Rinpoche is able to visit Melbourne.
